Friday-Sunday, September 19-21, 2014: 15 hours of instruction in solo and group single sword dance, balancing, sword manipulations, isolations, floorwork, spins, musicality, staging, and more; including 5 hours of double sword dance instruction!

Friday, September 19 - 12:30pm-5:30pm: (5 hrs) Essential Sword, and Dangerous Sword dance!  The core of solo sword dance. Isolations, original combinations and dramatic changes, introducing floorwork, using multiple balance points, spins and stops, blocking a sword performance, recovering a fumbled sword, troupe sword combinations for lead-and-follow or choreography, and more.

Optional Friday evening show:  enjoy dinner & a dance show! The Middle Eastern Dance Guild performs at Cozmic Stage, 8:30-10pm at 199 W 8th in Eugene, featuring local dance teachers. Show: $5; Great pizza and food and drinks are available for purchse, too! (A few performance spots may be available with prior approval–contact for more information.)

Saturday, September 20 - 9:30-12:30, 2-4pm (5 hours)  Death-Defying Sword - Learn a myriad of single sword manipulations, practice both easy and complex floorwork (optional), plus fancy combinations & fast moves, flow, musicality, performance focus for sword, and performing a full sword dance.

Optional: Saturday evening group dinner at a local restaurant!

Sunday, September 21 - 9:30-12:30, 2-4pm (5 hours) Double Sword!
Take the plunge and foray into the realm of double sword dance. We’ll start with easy add-a-sword movements, then shift to complex double-sword manipulations and using multiple balance points to pull together a full double-sword performance piece.

Total cost: $300 for all 15 hours, or $225 for 10-hour single sword intensive only (Friday-Saturday, 10 hrs), or $125 for double sword only (5hrs, Sunday). Limited to 12 dancers for maximum personal attention! Some practice swords are available to loan, and wooden swords will be used for part of each class. No battle-ready swords, please. Email  for registration information.  Space is very limited, so reserve your space soon. $50 deposit is required to reserve your space; balance payable by September 1, 2014.

Sword Dance Intensive is intended for intermediate-level to advanced dancers (minimum of one year of belly dance) with some experience balancing. If you’re brand new to sword, you need to start with beginner blade! Email for more information.
